Books about writing

I come across a lot of great books about writing – both as a working writer, and as a university writing teacher. The field is exploding, with books about story structure, genres, making a living, and the good old nitty-gritty of closeup craft.

So this is my gathering of reviews. I don’t review or recommend anything I haven’t used myself. These are the books that have given me a new tool or approach, or fired my imagination in some way. Some are practical, some more academic. All are worth considering for your writing shelf.
